What to Expect After Topdressing
The lawn may look dusty or lightly covered at first, but the grass should remain visible through the material. Watering and normal growth help the material settle into the canopy and soil surface.
When Topdressing May Not Be Appropriate
We may recommend delaying the service when turf is dormant, severely stressed, waterlogged or recently damaged. The lawn needs enough active growth to recover and grow through the applied layer.
Improve the Soil Beneath the Lawn
NPK Lawn Care offers lawn topdressing in Lexington, Columbia and coastal South Carolina. We can determine whether topdressing alone or a combination with aeration is appropriate.

Lawn Topdressing FAQs
Answers about topdressing depth, aeration, soil improvement and lawn recovery.
What is lawn topdressing?
Topdressing is the application of a thin, even layer of suitable material over existing turf to improve the surface soil or support lawn recovery.
Will topdressing cover the grass?
The grass should remain visible. Applying too much material can smother turf, so the depth must be controlled.
Is topdressing the same as leveling a yard?
No. It can smooth minor irregularities, but deep holes, drainage problems and major grade changes require different work.
Should topdressing be combined with aeration?
It often can be. Aeration opens the soil and topdressing can work into those openings, making the services complementary in compacted lawns.
